As the country remains the top source of seafarers, with 25% of the total 1.5 million seafarers worldwide, we remain at the forefront of the continued development of the seafarers’ competitiveness in the world market.
For 63 years, UPL has taken pride in its contribution to nation-building. As a strong maritime nation, remittances from OFWs continue to be a major contributor to the country’s improving economy.
UPL was established by Filipino ship owners that operated a liner service from Manila –Yokohama – Long Beach – New York. UPL then ventured to other major industries such as deep-sea fishing.
In the mid-70s- UPL pioneered/started the manning industry business. Its license was issued in the year 1972 and started to be the manning agent to prestigious companies such as Holland America Line, Shell International, Belships, and Windstar Cruises.
In 2006, BELCHEM Management joined UPL’s roster. In 2014, United Philippine Lines was chosen as the agent of Carnival Cruise Lines.
